Te Maunga o Kioreroa me Te whenua o Pūtahi
Te Parawhau Series'#5
Kioreroa Maunga was a sacred Maunga that had 'pre european historical significance for whanau whose whakapapa was to this Maunga and surrounding lands
Located on the edge of the Whangarei Harbour where Port Nikau is today, Kioreroa Maunga along with parts of 'Pūtahi Whenua, were destroyed, then mined to lay the foundations of the rail connection from Auckland to the Far North and the rest was flattened out for Land reclamation what is now known today as North Port, Port Nikau
The lower Tiki represents Kioreroa Maunga, as it is today, flattened! ln my view, Kiorerora will always be aknowledged through the stories that are passed down
The top Tiki represents Pūtahi, purposely inverted to signify the injustice to the Tupuna of this whenua who like many others fought for their sovereignty.
