This is a genuine piece of Māori art. It features a majestic manaia, and the handle is adorned with a plaited cord that feeds through the tail end. The eyes are inlaid with very small paua shards. This is a very special and unique Taonga.

The Wahaika ( meaning mouth of the fish )
Wahaika is a close quaters fighting weapon that was used by fierce Māori warriors to incapacitate and disarm their enemies. The small figures carved onto it represent personal protectors for the wearer. These sacred ancent Māori Taonga are symbols of mana (authority), status, cultural identity, and important relationships.
In most cases, our Wahaika are purchased to be gifted as birthday gifts, leaving/welcoming gifts, celebrations, and corporate events.
