Kia ora and welcome to Kowhatu Taonga, Aotearoa / New Zealand's most unique, impactful, and very special family-owned carving business. Founded by myself, Mijean Wetere, alongside my father, Trevor Wetere. We create the most beautiful traditional and contemporary Māori Taonga using a wide range of gorgeous recycled natural stones. Every Taonga (Treasure) is carefully carved by hand. In Māori culture, Taonga are incredibly significant spiritual items that each have their own meaning and purpose. 

The reason why we are unique is because of my fathers charity, Kowhatu Memorial Charity, New Zealand's first and only Headstone Charity. Helping families that struggle with the high costs of conventional headstone services. This is achieved through our resource recovery program, recycling discarded and rejected natural stones from the construction industry. The true reason why we started carving Taonga was to support our charitable endeavors and is what we still do to this day.
