Here we have a contemporary design of a Kotiate. It has such an incredible veining character. This is a rare stone and is apart of a limited series of Taonga. There is no doubt this Kotiate is a one of a kind, and is why it is a must have. The Kotiate was a prized weapon favored by Rangatira (Maori chiefs) when speech-making. It is also a pre-European weapon used for close combat. The carved notches were apparently so they got entwined with the combatant's intestines, as per the translation of the word kotiate, which means "to cut liver."
