What you see is a true work of Māori art. Not only does it have a magestic manaia seated on it, but you also have a beautiful display of purple feathers. Joined on the handle is a plaited wrap that feeds through the Wahaika itself. And if you did not notice already, on the end in the eyes, you will notice a black and white Opal Inlay. Very special and very unique Taonga.
(To add a personalized Wood Base with a three-word engraving, please add this to your cart by going to the Wood Base section. They are sold separately)

The Wahaika ( meaning mouth of the fish )
Wahaika is a close quaters fighting weapon that was used by fierce Māori warriors to incapacitate and disarm their enemies. The small figures carved onto it represent personal protectors for the wearer. These sacred ancent Māori Taonga are symbols of mana (authority), status, cultural identity, and important relationships.
In most cases, our Wahaika are purchased to be gifted as birthday gifts, leaving/welcoming gifts, celebrations, and corporate events.
A signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity will come with this Taonga.
